If you had the resources, and the time, what would you build?

How about a 1967 Mustang Fastback!

Take it apart, put a true Shelby 427FE Aluminum Super Charged Engine, putting out 750HP, a 5 speed TKO 600 transmission, change the front and rear suspension, disc brakes all around, and change everything possible to today's technology?

Would that be fun?

I'd start a company that specialized in dropping old bodies on to new performance platforms. '53 vettes on '06 Z06 chassis. Hemi Cuda bodies on top of Viper or LX platforms with new 528 Hemi crate engines.

Then I'd like to build a '67 Fastback on top of a tubular chassis with all around independent suspension, all wheel drive and Ford GT power train.

In my opinion and with very few exceptions, cars haven't looked decent since before 1972. The mechanicals have gotten better and better but the wind tunnel has ruined the looks. The retro trend is nice but they aren't really capturing my heart. The new Challenger looks very promising! The Mustang was closer in prototype form but once it got to production there were mistakes. The after market kits do fix a lot but they are very expensive.

I agree with you about the cars not looking as good as the the Muscle Car era.

But you have mentioned a few of the nicer new cars. I had even thought of buying the Ford GT. Since they are going to stop production, it will probably be a collector item.

Just finished removal of all the floor sound deadening material. I used a heat blower/paint removal gun and a scraper.

Now it is ready for media blasting. Supposed to go tomorrow.

Got the fuel cell, Rack & Pinion, PIAA lights, and a whole lot of small parts in today.

I have to go back to work for a week.

Thanks Chris.

I fabricated the patch panels to make the rear brake side scoop functional.

I used a 3" x 1 1/2" long piece of exhaust pipe.

I also cut the holes for the side exhaust through the rear torque boxes and rocker panels. Instructions Link

Good question. It might on a coupe, but not on a fastback.

One of the things I would do different is how I mated the pieces. I welded the pipe to the backside of the plate. Then I ground the hole in the plate out to match the inside diameter of the pipe. A lot of grinding with the die grinder.

It would be better to weld the plate to the outside diameter of the pipe. Just stick the pipe through the hole in the plate about 1/32", weld it, and grind it down with the angle grinder.

The previous owner used bolts to put in the floor pans. While this is OK, it is not what I want.

Since the pans are already in, welding up the holes is not very difficult. So, the passenger side floor pan has now been welded in.

I also started the one of the rear inside wheelwell installations.

Chuggin along.....

Nice work SS...

Looks like you got a nice project going.

Now don't take me wrong because I'm not try to slam you, but the HP numbers you are gunning for a so overkill, it's not even funny.

I for one found out that almost 600 hp is overkill. The car will just spin in every gear. If you get it to hook, you're gonna twist it like a pretzel.

So if you're serious about those numbers, get serious about doing a full tube chassis on that car, a narrowed rear end and huge slicks.
